How to check voter ID Status?

Election is an elaborate affair in India and as it is considered to be the biggest democratic country in the world, the citizens are given the right to cast their vote and exercise the power given to them and elect their leaders who will then run the country.

Also, Voter ID card is an essential document in India because it serves as a proof of identity as well. This document is authorized by the government of India. Hence, it is important to acquire a voter ID card.

Every citizen above the age of 18 years is eligible to apply for a voter ID / election card. And they should be of sound mind and should not be bankrupt. Also, make sure to apply for a voter ID card in government approved websites; else you might receive a false document. Ensure all the information you are providing is correct, as in case of incorrect information such wrong spelling of the name or date of birth, your voter ID will have the wrong information printed on it. Also make sure to provide the documents supporting the information you are providing for the authentication purpose.  

The Election Commission of India (ECI) made the voter ID application process easy and convenient where one can apply for a voter ID card online.

Once you acquire a voter ID card, it is also important to check the status of the card. To check the status of the card, follow the below mentioned procedure:

Election Commission of India (ECI) offers various ways to check voter ID card status, such as:

·        Official website of the Election Commission of India and websites dedicated to each state

·        Through SMS and

·        Calling on the dedicated official Helpline number

Steps 1 – Visit national voter’s service portal or you can directly visit http://www.nvsp.in/Forms/Forms/trackstatus

Step 2 - Enter ‘reference ID’ (that you have received at the time of registration)

Step 3 – Click on ‘Track Status’ i.e. voter ID status

Step 4 – Your voter ID status will be displayed on the screen

One can also check the status of their card by calling on the dedicated ECI’s (Election Commission of India), help line number.

Call from your BSNL or MTNL number to a specific four digit helpline number i.e. 1950. The instructions will be in English or Hindi, whichever language you have selected.

Or you can also contact the dedicated customer care number provided for each state.

One should apply for a voter ID card as it is an essential document. By holding a voter ID card one can cast their vote and participate in the election. This card also serves as an accepted form of personal identity as it provides the assurance for the card holder as it contains applicant’s signature, photograph, fingerprints etc.
